Roald Dahl’s writing hut is exactly what you’d expect

I am a huge Roald Dahl fan so I was really happy to come across this 1982 video of him in his natural habitat.

Even though this was filmed thirty six years ago (eight years before he passed) there’s something cozy and familiar about Roald’s routine. The analogue pencil sharpening, the comfortable armchair and the candid explanation of his creative process is both nostalgic and inspiring.

Enjoy Roald kicking back in his creation nook with a flask of coffee (which might feature a splash of good burgundy) and a smoke …

A little known fact about Roald Dahl’s writing hut: Located in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, the garden writing shed was built by his friend Wally Saunders who was also the inspiration for The BFG. Roald Dahl’s most famous children’s books were conjured to life inside the writing hut.
